School of Music honours student Andrey Lebedev wins national award

School of Music honours student Andrey Lebedev has won the Fine Music Network Young Performer Award.  Andrey competed against four other performers from around the country to win the $10,000 cash prize.

This is the first year that ArtSound FM (Canberra’s Fine Music Network station) has sponsored an entry from the ACT, in association with the ANU School of Music and the friends of the ANU School of Music.

Andrey received first prize in the Adelaide International Guitar Competition earlier this year. He says the wins have come at an important time in his career.

“Winning this competition is a huge honour for me. It’s very exciting to see the classical guitar holding its own against more conventional classical instruments like the violin and piano,” he said. “This is the first time the classical guitar has reached the national finals and the first time it’s won the competition outright."
